Overview of the Changing Lives Through Horses Programme.
- This is a place where children and young people, aged 5-25, can thrive in a safe and nurturing environment, no matter their background or challenges. Our Changing Lives Through Horses programme offers just that.
- Designed for those with additional needs, including special educational needs, neurodiversity and those who’ve faced trauma or exclusion from traditional education, our programme gives young people a unique opportunity for growth and learning through horsey activities.
- The British Horse Society Changing Lives Through Horses programme is an educational and character-building programme which encompasses the development of life skills and academic achievement within an equine environment through a structured award-based programme that links to the national curriculum.
- The main aim of the programme is to develop and support 6 key life skills:
- Communication, Confidence, Teamwork, Building Relationships, Perseverance, and Responsibility.
- Activities contained in each award provide opportunities for the participant to develop in the six key life skills that are widely transferable back to school, further education opportunities or socially, practice learning skills linked to their school curriculum and build a portfolio of equine knowledge and experience that could lead to a pathway of further industry qualifications

what we can offer
- Experienced staff on site, including a Registered mental health nurse, a qualified teacher, British Horse Society Coach, Level 4 Equine Facilitated Learning Practitioner, Former HMP tutor in Suicide and Self Harm awareness, Challenging Behaviour and Employment training.
- Happy Hooves has a highly selective referral process to ensure correct group dynamics.
- We use horses and donkeys as they are highly sensitive to human emotions and provide instant feedback, helping participants recognize and regulate their feelings, which can reduce anxiety, depression, and stress. For people with trauma or difficulty forming trust, horses offer a nonjudgmental environment that facilitates emotional openness and or therapeutic progress.
- We have small groups of students with similar experiences in mainstream education settings.
- We build safe non-judgemental spaces in which students can off load and discuss any topic relevant to them and enjoy a friendly and humorous environment.
- Build trust, increase self-esteem and gain confidence in abilities.
- Employment training skills, CV's, interview techniques etc.
- Gain confidence starting with AQA achievement awards, build a portfolio/CV, progress to the British Horse Society Changing Lives through Horses scheme, GCSE in Personal development, leading to the BHS career pathway, employment or FE colleges.

We have a code of ethics for our animals which is strictly followed. They are our much loved pets with all their quirks and are specially selected for their temperament and personalities. They all love the attention and fuss they get from humans.
